| | | | What is Bikram Yoga?
Bikram Yoga is a series of 26 postures and two breathing exercises brought to the U.S. by Bikram Choudhury in the 1970's. Bikram's guru Bishnu Gosh, the brother of Parmahansa Yogananda (author of Autobiography of a Yogi), taught Bikram hatha yoga as practiced in India for 4,000 years. Bikram developed his series as the most effective way to reach a wide range of people of varied health and age.
| Bikram's Beginning Yoga Class is 90 minutes and practiced in a studio heated to 105 degrees with humidity. The heat facilitates deeper stretching, injury prevention, and better circulation. It systematically stimulates and restores health to every muscle, joint and organ of the body, down to the cellular level. Practicing Bikram Yoga works the cardiovascular system while building strength and flexibility. In addition to strengthening the body, Bikram Yoga helps strengthen the five aspects of the mind – Faith, Self-Control, Determination, Concentration, and Patience. | Bikram famously says, "Never too late, too old, too bad, too sick, to start from scratch and begin again."
